We chose Unipro as prime contractor on this project as they were able to offer skill sets in the three key areas that we needed:
Experience of high volume/high integrity online data processing gained through their existing industrial application experience
- Creativity to develop prototypes in close consultation with key business users and market leaders, thereby achieving 'rapid speed to market'
- Ability to provide service and support on a 24 hours per day/365 days per year basis for all aspects - from hosting to content provision
- In all areas Unipro delivered. Concept pilot was achieved in two months, enabling a full market launch just two months later, which far exceeded the business' expectations.

Project Phases
The overall project was managed in the following phases:
Phase 1 - Technical audit and analysis of an existing legacy website leading to recommendations to rebuild the complete foundations in more robust technologies
Phase 2 - 'Proof of Concept' development to determine queuing methodologies, and as a side product, creation of a methodology that was immediately patented by the Blockbuster International business
Phase 3 - Launch of site and new business with rapid transaction growth and inbuilt capacity for 100,000+ transactions per day
Phase 4 - Major enhancements to integrate automated sortation equipment, leading to labour cost reductions of 40%, with no loss of service
By working closely with the Blockbuster team to fully understand the dynamics of our business, the requirements of our customers and the drivers of our market, Unipro has identified, designed and implemented systems that deliver a competitive edge.

The completed solution has been available since launch - 24 hours per day/365 days per year. The functionality includes a web front end, encompassing online and store-based DVD purchases and rentals, warehousing and automated sortation, customer relationship management and call centre, all integrated into a central office-based Oracle Data warehouse.
The system has recently been rolled out to Blockbuster Mexico and is being considered for other market deployments.
